Music and the

Singing should be included in the daily curriculum, select a seasonal song and sing it for several weeks. Use simple melodies in the early grades, progressing though the years to more complex songs with more verses.

First Grade
Introduce your child to the pentonic flute or pennywhistle at the beginning of the year. Have a music lesson once or twice a week where you all sing, play and listen to music of different kinds.

Third Grade
Music notation is taught, beginning in third grade.  And by the end of this grade your child will have mastered the recorder.

Fourth grade
This is the correct time to introduce your child to the violin, viola or cello. After fourth grade, all children are encouraged to continue with their instrument of choice (strings or winds) and private lessons are available at school.

Fifth grade
Encourage your child to continue playing their instrument of choice.

Sixth, seventh and eighth grade
Consider introducing your child to a student orchestra or band. [eeeeek]
